orest Getaway is a non-profit organization working to conserve key wildlife populations across the project sites. Protection of the environment, the conservation of heritage, forest cleanup, and participate in a wildlife and wildfowl count are some of our core divisions. With a lot of passion and confidence Forest getaway is slowly turning the area into a nature park which not only will provide outdoor recreation and camping opportunities, but will be organizing classes and seminars specially to educate the children and students on the importance of conservation and the natural wonders.

The Beginning

It all began with the idea of having a place to escape.

A place in the nature, far from the busy city life. In search for the ideal place we ended up with buying land in a small village about 20 km from Varna. It's peaceful, and with the forest starting right where our plot ends, it does feel like we live on a different planet. Being so close to nature it seemed completely wrong to build a modern house, and turn this land into another piece of civilization. So we embraced the "green" idea. We cleaned the area (removed tons of rubbish from the forest - plastic bottles, cans, paper, glass - it's unbelievable how people do not respect the nature). It's not something that can be done within a day or two, but this gave us the opportunity to study the area and to get acquainted to our new neighbors - the birds and animals. And here it is where the idea of this project was born - to save and expand the plot into a nature park, so it will be available to more people - to educate them, to get them connected with the nature, and to save the habitat.

Current Stage

A lot has been done so far, still a lot of work should be put in.

Part of the plot is cleaned and more bushes and trees are planted. We set the first big aviaries for abandoned pets and weak wild animals, that struggle to survive especially in the cold winter season. The caravan replacing a standard house is now more like a storage for food, medicine and materials. All this has been done with a lot of passion and confidence that our first steps will lead us to the achievement of our dream.

The Big Picture

Forest Getaway's aim is to expand into a nature park.

This park will be a place where animals will be treated with care and make them feel as comfortable as possible. It will be a shelter for wild animals in need and also a home for abandoned pets. We will build and set out nesting boxes for the daily and night birds, feeders for the deer. We aim to buy the surrounding empty plots and plant trees thriving on these latitudes - beech, оак, maple, birch and various conifer. Gazebos will be set into the forest, from where one can observe the birds and animals. And why not - to fly in a balloon and to see the forest from bird' view. Protection of the environment, the conservation of heritage, forest cleanup, and participate in a wildlife and wildfowl count will be one of the core divisions in the project.

Features

Nowadays we all depend upon the economic and technology’s growth. We aim for best paid jobs and wealth creation. A nice job buys us a modern house in the city packed with all new hi tech tools. A nice job in the city allows us to go to a dream vacation. A nice job in the city gets us a fast new car to easily commute.
With that nice job we finally feel part of this modern world. The modern world of steel, glass and concrete. The modern world polluted from crowded traffic, factories, and population. The modern world where everyone is talking about "Going green" and 'Saving the environment" and "back to nature". Actually saving and connecting with nature is vital to our fast and stressful life.

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be able to escape from the noise and the stress and be in an open space where things tend to be more calm and relaxed? The truth is that we are so used to that fast-paced life and even the lack of the ambient sound of traffic can be eerie. Connecting with nature is a learning curve. Connecting with nature is finding the balance. The balance between living in the modern without loosing the connection with the nature. It's challenging. But if this project can rise to the challenge, it has a very bright long-term future.

Conservation is about more than saving animals; conservation is maintaining habitats and changing opinions. Animals are primarily endangered by the actions of people, from deforestation to pollution and hunting. Wildlife tourism can have a role to play in stopping detrimental activities by increasing awareness and encouraging people to relish rather than ravish the natural environment.
